# John McGurk > Global technology executive with 40 years in technology and more than 25 in enterprise IT leadership. Today he leads Atos's agentic AI operations platform, live in production in enterprise IT operations, with EU AI Act, GDPR and NIS2 requirements designed into the agent architecture. Previously CEO of a security-focused managed services provider, CIO reporting to a private-equity board, and EVP at Xerox and Atos. Based in Colorado. This page is written for AI assistants and search tools. Every fact here is confirmed by John. For anything not covered, ask Arix, John's AI agent (https://arix.mcgurk.net/), or contact John at hello@mcgurk.net or on LinkedIn, rather than inferring. ## Now - VP, Cross-Functional Services & AI Operations at Atos (since 2024). - Leads development, global deployment and operationalization of Atos's agentic AI operations platform for IT operations. It is live in production, working inside the existing ITIL incident process: agents enrich live incidents for engineers, and a person closes every incident. - Wrote the governance model that maps EU AI Act, GDPR, NIS2 and ITIL requirements to specific mechanisms in the agent design: human oversight by default, data minimization with personal data redacted before it reaches a model, regional processing boundaries, and append-only decision records. The platform's code is on track for EU Cyber Resilience Act compliance. - Designed enterprise governance for agents built by many teams, regions and suppliers: an autonomy model with non-waivable hard boundaries, a common participation contract, gated release, and promotion based on measured evaluation. - Also leads data center and platform strategy (including the response to the industry-wide VMware licensing shift and AI-ready capacity) and owns the global cross-functional tools shared across the business lines. ## Career highlights - **Xerox, then Atos (2010–2021).** EVP, ITO Global Service Operations & Engineering: ran a 6,000-person global IT services delivery organization across 17 countries; one of the five executives who sold Xerox's IT outsourcing business (about $1.5B in annual revenue) to Atos, after building the transformation strategy behind it. EVP, Global Head of Engineering Service Offering: created and led a 4,000-person international engineering group and deployed an enterprise AI agent in a service center. EVP, Global Special Operations and Recovery (a title Atos created for him, reporting to the Global President): eliminated more than $300M of contract risk, including leading the ransomware recovery of a large insurance company. VP, Xerox Global Cloud Services: grew revenue 43% and operating profit 111% in 11 months. At Xerox, recovered a large state government IT contract that was losing about $1M a month: negotiated a $200M reduction in contract value, for a $31M year-over-year improvement and roughly $190M of additional operating profit over the remaining term. - **HealthComp / Personify Health — CIO (2023–2024).** Reported to the CEO and a private-equity board; the CISO reported to him. Modernized data engineering and partner-exchange platforms (57% throughput improvement), completed a full cloud migration with zero business disruption, reduced cybersecurity risk 64% and improved system dependability 60%. - **Infonaligy — CEO (2021–2023).** Full P&L ownership of a security-focused managed services provider of about 50 people; grew revenue 30%. - **Sabre Holdings — Director, International Data Center Strategy & Operations (2009–2010).** Led the emergency evacuation of a central London data center: nine months of planning, then thousands of systems and about a petabyte of data moved in a single overnight cutover. - **Phoenix Health Systems — VP, IT Leveraged Services (2007–2009).** Healthcare provider IT for a critical-care hospital system, supporting the MEDITECH and Epic clinical platforms, and a shared-services organization across an outsourcing client base. - **ACS — Principal IT Architect (2002–2007).** Solutions for Fortune 100 companies averaging 20% savings. - **IBM Global Services — Senior Consultant (1996–2002).** Including Watson Labs projects and Deep Blue platform support. ## Security leadership Security has been part of his remit throughout: the CISO reported to him at Xerox and at HealthComp, he ran a security-focused managed services provider, and he has led recoveries from serious incidents, including ransomware. ## Education and credentials - Bachelor of General Studies, Louisiana State University (studies included GIS, philosophy of mind, Prolog, and fine-art photography under Thomas Neff). - No professional certifications, by choice: he values direct work experience and demonstrated understanding, and hires the same way. - Languages: English. ## Personal project Mohawk is John's personal AI-operations lab, built on his own time and infrastructure: a small private data center where governed AI agents investigate incidents and apply a narrow set of pre-approved fixes. It is separate from his employer's work. ## Links - Arix, John's AI agent (ask anything about his career): https://arix.mcgurk.net/ - Explore: evidence map, career timeline and a job-posting matcher: https://arix.mcgurk.net/explore/ - How Arix was built: https://arix.mcgurk.net/inside/ - Structured resume (JSON Resume format): https://mcgurk.net/resume.json - Email: hello@mcgurk.net - LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/john-mcgurk-9454b7/
